Yonge Sheppard Animal Hospital

Core Values

Thank you for your interest in joining the Yonge Sheppard Animal Hospital community! Before your furry friends’ first appointment with us, we’d love to tell you a bit about who we are so you can know the team caring for your pets.

Established in 2016, the Yonge Sheppard Animal Hospital embodies 5 Core Values:

1. Compassion for our patients is paramount.

2. Our team members are our extended family.

3. Our patients, and their people, are special.

4. We are transparent and true to our core values.

5. We are dedicated to continuing education and self- improvement.

We encourage all new clients to review our Community Guidelines about the Veterinary-Client-Patient-Relationship. Our goal is to provide transparent and compassionate care for your pets’ health and well-being. We strive to clearly communicate what you can expect from our dedicated team and the services we offer.

In-Clinic Appointments

Come down to 280 Sheppard Avenue East, Unit 102 for your scheduled appointment and join your furry friend in the examination room! When you bring your pet in for their appointment, we kindly request the following:

→ Due to space limitations, we can only allow 2 owners into the clinic during the appointment.
→ Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your appointment time to allow for proper check-in procedures.
→ For maximum safety, we kindly request that you stay in the exam room for the duration of your appointment.
→ Masks are optional, but may be requested, and can be provided.

Once you and your pet have entered the exam room, you will be joined by the Veterinarian and Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to discuss your pet’s history and concerns, conduct the physical exam, and come up with a diagnostic and treatment plan as required.  Some procedures may require taking your pet to a staff-only treatment area, but you can knock on the door if you have any questions or requests during this time.

Once your appointment is done, we’ll let you know when you can head back up to the lobby where one of our front desk team will process your payment and provide an invoice for your visit!

Surgical Procedures

We want you to feel confident and informed about our surgical procedures because we know how hard it can be to be away from your furry friend, especially for a surgery. Here’s a guide on what to expect:

  1. Pre-Surgery Prep: We’ll email you a consent form a week before the scheduled appointment. Please make sure your pet is fasted for 12 hours before the procedure: no food after 9 pm the night before and no water after 6 am the day of surgery.
  2. Arrival: On the day of the surgery, please bring your pet to the clinic between 8:30 am and 9 am. When you arrive, one of our  Registered Veterinary Technicians will greet you, review the procedure, and answer any questions. You can then leave your pet with us for the day.
  3. Throughout the Day: Our veterinarian call throughout the day to update you on the progress and any relevant findings.
  4. Post-Surgery Care: As your pet starts to wake from anesthesia, we will call you to discuss post-surgical care. Don’t worry – we’ll also email you detailed instructions and send a printed copy home with your pet.
  5. Pick-Up: When it’s time to pick up your pet, come to the reception area, and a team member will bring your furry friend to you. You’ll be able to head home with your pet, equipped with all the information you need for a smooth recovery.

We want to keep you updated!

When your pet is here for the day, we'll call you throughout the day with updates, but you can also call/text us anytime at 647-260-8387 to check in!

Drop-Off Appointments

Drop-Off appointments are required for sedated procedures, special diagnostic testing (such as ultrasound or x-rays) and sometimes for urgent same-day appointments.

→ When you arrive for your appointment, you may let our front desk team know. To ensure they receive optimal care, the pick-up time may extend up to 8 hours after the drop-off.
→ A team member will bring your pet through to our treatment area and you will be free to go home.
→ Communication will continue over the phone: we will call you throughout the day to provide updates, discuss the appointment and any recommendations, as well as let you know when the appointment is done and your pet can be picked up.
